NEW DELHI: Eight individuals, including three children, lost their lives in air strikes carried out by Pakistan on Monday in border areas of Afghanistan, a Taliban government spokesperson said, strongly condemning the attack.
According to spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, at “around 3:00 am (2230 GMT), Pakistani aircraft bombarded civilian homes” in Khost and Paktika regions near the Pakistani border.
“In Paktika province, six people, including three women and three children, were killed,” he said, further adding that two women were killed.
Calling it an attack on Afghanistan’s sovereignty, the spokesperson said that Taliban government “strongly condemns these attacks and calls this reckless action a violation of and an attack on Afghanistan’s sovereignty”.
Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have escalated since the Taliban assumed power in 2021, with Islamabad accusing militant groups of launching attacks from Afghan territory.
