Glenda Jackson, who won Academy Awards for Women In Love and A Touch of Class, has passed away at 87.

The English actress also had a second career in politics as a British lawmaker. She joined the House of Commons as a Labour MP in north London from 1992 to 2015.

In a statement on Thursday, her agent Lionel Larner said: “Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London this morning after a brief illness with her family at her side. She recently completed filming The Great Escaper in which she co-starred with Michael Caine.”

Glenda returned to acting and won a BAFTA award for her role in the TV drama Elizabeth Is Missing in 2020. She also won three Emmy Awards and a Tony Award.

She was married to Roy Hodges in 1958 and they divorced in 1976. Glenda is survived by her son, Dan Hodges.

Tulip Siddiq, her successor as Labour lawmaker for her London seat, said she was “devastated to hear that my predecessor Glenda Jackson has died.”

“A formidable politician, an amazing actress and a very supportive mentor to me. Hampstead and Kilburn will miss you Glenda,” Siddiq wrote on Twitter with a picture of the two of them together.
