Opposition trying to divide India: BJP on toilet row | India News

NEW DELHI: The ‘toilet controversy’ originated from a viral video that shows DMK’s Dayanidhi Maran underscoring the importance of English education. He purportedly stated that people proficient in English secured respectable jobs in the IT sector, unlike those from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh who only knew Hindi and migrated to states like Tamil Nadu for menial work.
A video clip shows him citing the example of Sundar Pichai, a native of Tamil Nadu, suggesting that had the Google CEO learned Hindi, he would have been employed as a construction worker.

‘Hindi speakers from UP, Bihar clean toilets in Tamil Nadu’: DMK leader’s another shocker goes viral

Highlighting RJD’s commitment to “social justice and equality”, Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said: “Had the DMK MP highlighted caste discrimination, had he pointed out that only people from some particular social groups took up such hazardous jobs, it would have made sense. But some one speaking against the entire people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh is completely wrong. We believe that people of any state should be respectful towards those coming from other parts of the country.”
He cautioned against making controversial statements that could fuel animosity. “If the migrant workers stop going, normal life in many states will be crippled,” he said.
Bihar finance minister and senior JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary echoed Tejashwi’s sentiments, while denouncing Maran’s comments as “irresponsible”. “Such a statement cannot be of a mature political leader,” he said, calling for measured language in public discourse.
BJP leaders went full blast against the opposition’s INDIA coalition, positioning Maran’s speech with the recent controversial remarks by DMK leaders regarding Sanatan Dharma. “The Ghamandiya alliance is hell-bent on creating a rift in the country as they are frustrated and resorting to frequent insinuations to people of the country, which reflects their desperation and helplessness,” said BJP chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni.
Rajya Sabha MP and BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi criticised the INDIA bloc parties for attempting to create social tension over language and region, contrasting it with PM Modi’s efforts on linguistic harmony. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla condemned Maran’s language as “unfortunate” and accused the INDIA bloc of trying to divide the nation, while Tamil Nadu BJP vice president Naryananan Thirupathy alleged that DMK leaders consistently use derogatory language against north Indians.
BJP Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi asked Lalu Prasad and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to take action against DMK if RJD and JD(U) disagreed with Maran’s comments.
