THANE: The deaths of 18 patients within 24 hours at Kalwa’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in chief minister Eknath Shinde‘s stronghold triggered immediate response among opposition leaders who swarmed the facility, tearing into the ruling parties and the civic administration holding them responsible for the lapse.
NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad demanded immediate suspension of the hospital hierarchy, including the dean and medical superintendent, and compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
Shiv Sena (UBT) district president Kedar Dighe warned the administration of staging a bitter protest within the facility if the situation didn’t improve soon, while his colleague MP Rajan Vichare said the CM should set aside other work like splitting parties to focus on basic needs in his stronghold.
