Opposition meeting Bangalore: Opposition’s message to BJP over Bengaluru meet amid Maharashtra NCP crisis | India News

NEW DELHI: The shadow of Maharashtra political crisis for the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has been cast on the joint opposition meeting with some of these parties cocking a snook at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
After the first joint opposition meet which was held at Patna on June 23, it was announced that the second one would be held in Shimla. However, Sharad Pawar announced that the proposed meet will be held in Bengaluru on July 13-14.
But the meeting was cancelled on Sunday after Ajit Pawar of the NCP led a coup against his uncle Sharad Pawar switching sides with eight party MLAs. He was sworn in as the deputy chief minister in the coalition government of Shiv Sena (Shinde) and BJP in Maharashtra.
The cancellation gave the impression that it was resorted to due to the political developments in Maharashtra because it would have had an impact on the opposition meet.
However, the Congress announced on Monday that the next meeting of opposition parties will be held in Bengaluru on July 17 and 18. The earlier dates were said to be clashing with the assembly sessions in a few states, including Karnataka.
Rajya Sabha MP and Congress general secretary in-charge of organisation KC Venugopal made the announcement on Twitter and said “we are steadfast in our unwavering resolve to defeat the fascist and undemocratic forces”.
Venugopal said, “After a hugely successful all-opposition meeting in Patna, we will be holding the next meeting in Bengaluru on 17 and 18 July, 2023. We are steadfast in our unwavering resolve to defeat the fascist and undemocratic forces and present a bold vision to take the country forward.”
Mamata Banerjee-led TMC MP Derek O’Brien, in a cryptic post on Twitter responded to Venugopal’s announcement and said, “Bengaluru Summit. All For One. One For All.”
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications department Jairam Ramesh directly hit the BJP over the opposition meet. He said, “Yesterday when the BJP washing machine restarted in Mumbai with its ICE (Income-tax, CBI, ED) detergent, BJP-inspired obituaries on opposition unity were being planted. The obit writers will be disappointed. The next meeting of the parties that met at Patna on June 23 will be held in Bengaluru on July 17 and 18. If anything, the Mumbai operations have strengthened the opposition resolve.”
In a sarcastic reply to Ramesh, Derek said, “I am surprised you managed to even get a packet of the washing powder to use in your tweet. All packs and washing machines sold out in Worli, Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra.”
