AGARTALA: Tripura’s Opposition on Friday sought to turn the tables on a BJP rival’s alleged sleaze in the Assembly by getting on top of one, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.
The unseemly spectacle unfolded as MLAs of CPM, Tipra Motha and Congress walked out on the first day of the budget session protesting the speaker’s decision not to take action against Jadab Lal Nath, the BJP lawmaker caught allegedly watching obscene videos during the last session in March this year.
Five Opposition MLAs were suspended for creating a ruckus leading to the walkout, including the Tipra Motha trio of Nandita Reang, Brishaketu Debbarma and Ranjit Debbarma who climbed onto a table. The suspensions were later revoked.
On Friday, leader of opposition, Motha’s Animesh Debbarma, enquired about the status of an adjournment motion he had moved for action against Nath.
Debbarma and others asked speaker Biswabandhu Sen to take action and condemn the act. The speaker and treasury benches disagreed, triggering the uproar.
