MOSCOW: Extending his greetings on India’s 75th Republic Day, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said India enjoys a “deserved influence in the international arena” and is playing “an active role” in solving the most important issues on the international agenda.
Putin also commended the “privileged strategic partnership” with India as he congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 75th Republic Day, the state-run TASS news agency reported.
“We value the privileged strategic partnership between our countries. I am confident that, through joint efforts, we will continue to systematically boost the constructive cooperation between Russia and India across the board,” the Russian leader said in a telegram message.
“This fully meets the interests of our friendly peoples as it is in line with strengthening security and stability both regionally and globally,” he added.
According to Putin, India has achieved impressive success in the socio-economic sphere, as well as in the fields of research and technology.
“The South Asian country enjoys a deserved influence in the international arena and is playing an active role in solving the most important issues on the international agenda,” the report said, quoting the Russian president.
Meanwhile, while interacting with university students in Kaliningrad Region on the occasion of ‘Russian Student Day’ on Thursday, Russian President Putin heaped praise on Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and credited India for pursuing an “independent external international policy” which is no mean feat these days.
“India is pursuing independent external international policy, which is no mean feat these days. But, India with a population of 1.5 billion has the right to do so… This is not just a statement, it is important from the point of organising joint work because it allows us to forecast the actions of our partners in the medium and long terms,” President Putin said.
He also said that “the country (India) is developing at an amazing pace. Its GDP grew at 7.7 per cent. One of the highest rates of economic growth in the world.” He also spoke about India’s diverse culture and the popularity of Indian movies in Russia.
“India is a great culture. It’s diverse and colourful. And Russia is one of the few countries in the world that brought Indian cinema permanently on its federal TV channels. I know very few other countries to do that. We have very much in common,” he said.
“We work within various international organisations. Both global like the UN and the recently established but dynamically growing such as BRICS,” he said.
