MUMBAI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav have met NCP president Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray to discuss opposition unity at the national level.
To mobilise anti-BJP parties, Kumar had recently met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress politician Rahul Gandhi and New Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of AAP.
Pawar said it was high time anti-BJP parties joined hands for the protection of democracy and democratic institutions. “Gross abuse of power and central agencies has become the rule. We will have to mobilise activists to halt this trend,” he said.
Pawar expressed concern over the manner in which a person was appointed the governor. “When he was here, I have spoken against him publicly. It is a classic example as to how that person destroyed the institution of Raj Bhavan. Since he is not here, it will not be proper to speak about him. In my opinion, in view of the apex court order, it will be easier to campaign against BJP in the state,” Pawar said.
Kumar and Yadav met Thackeray at his residence, Matoshree, in Bandra (East). “We had spoken and had decided to meet. The SC order has also come … [W]e know about the injustice done to him. The SC order is a good thing. It is very surprising that a party’s name and symbol was given to someone else. We are all with him on this. We came to ensure that across the country, more parties come together, they unite and we fight together,” Kumar said.
