‘Nikki Haley knows as little about the Civil War as she does about Ukraine war’, Ramaswamy takes aim at Republican peer

NEW DELHI: Amid the unfolding drama surrounding the 2024 US Presidential elections, Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called out his fellow conservatives, particularly Nikki Haley, for what he perceives as a lack of both historical and foreign policy knowledge.
Following his criticism of Haley’s stance on the primary cause of the American civil war, Ramaswamy has now turned his attention to her and president Joe Biden’s qualifications in the realm of ‘real foreign policy’ experience.
Taking to social media to express his concerns, Ramaswamy said, “Turns out Nikki knows as little about the Civil War as she does about the Ukraine War. But whatever war it was, I’m sure she’s in favor of it.”

The critique didn’t stop there; during an interview, Ramaswamy highlighted the apparent deficiency in both Biden and Haley’s understanding of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. He questioned their ability to name three provinces in the region that they would be willing to deploy US troops, emphasizing the importance of having leaders with a solid grasp of foreign affairs.
Ramaswamy had taken a dig at Hailey, saying, “She has no idea what the hell the names of those provinces are that you want to send our sons, daughters, and our military equipment to go and fight. So, reject this myth that they have been selling you. Somebody had a cup of coffee, sat in the UN and made 8 million bucks after having real foreign experience. It takes an outsider to see, look at that blank expression.”
Nikki Haley has faced criticism, as she was questioned about her historical acumen during a New Hampshire town hall. When asked about the primary cause of the Civil War, Haley failed to mention slavery in her initial response, prompting her to walk back her comments hours later. The incident raised eyebrows and contributed to the ongoing debate about the qualifications and historical awareness of presidential candidates.
His remarks come at a time when foreign policy decisions are under scrutiny, especially with President Biden’s recent authorization of the deployment of 3,000 US troops to Poland, Germany, and Romania on February 3, 2022.
Ramaswamy also responded to the state of Maine’s decision to exclude former president Donald Trump from its Republican presidential primary ballot—the second state to disqualify him due to his involvement in the January 2021 assault on the US Capitol.
In response to Trump’s exclusion, Ramaswamy said, “As a Republican candidate, I will willingly withdraw my candidacy from any GOP primary ballot where any of my fellow competitors, including Donald Trump, is involuntarily removed through this unconstitutional maneuver.”
