Ncp: After losing ‘national party’ status, CPI & NCP now set to lose Delhi bungalows | India News

NEW DELHI: The government is likely to ask CPI and NCP to vacate two bungalows allotted to them after they lost the status of national party. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which also lost the tag, is unlikely to get the land allotted to it in the national capital for construction of its party office, TOI has learnt.
Sources said while NCP could not zero in on a plot for allotment for its party office in New delhi after several site visits, TMC had been objecting to the allotment of the 1,008 sq meter land on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg citing encroachments, including two temples. Even more than nine years after the land was allotted, TMC did not take possession.
“Had TMC taken possession of the land and made payment, it could carry out construction even after losing the status of national party. Now there is a bleak possibility for TMC getting the allotted land parcel. Similarly, if NCP had decided on the plot and taken possession, they could build their party office here,” said an official.
Officials said in the case of CPI, the party will keep its central office, Ajoy Bhavan, on Kotla Marg, but will have to vacate a Type-VII bungalow on Purana Qila Road allotted to the party general secretary. Similarly, NCP will have to vacate the 1, Canning Road bungalow which was allotted to it for its party office.
Meanwhile, sources said AAP, which has got the national party status, would soon seek allotment of land from the housing and urban affairs ministry for its party office in Delhi. As per the policy for “allotment of land to political parties”, AAP is eligible to get a 500 sq metre plot since it has less than 15 MPs in both Houses of Parliament.
Though parties are required to complete construction on the allotted plot within three years after sanction of building plans, the government has been quite liberal in giving give extensions.
