PRAYAGRAJ: Mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Saturday.
Moments ahead of their killing, both criminals, who were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, were speaking to the media while being taken for a medical and their murder was captured on camera.
“Nahi le gaye to nahi gaye (they did not take us, so we did not go)” were Atiq Ahmad’s last words, when asked what did he have to say on not being taken to his son Asad’s funeral.
“Main baat ye hai ki Guddu Muslim…. (the thing is that Guddu Muslim…) were Ashraf’s last words.

<p>Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were shot dead live on camera while being taken for medical checkup in Prayagraj.</p>
<p>The shooting that occurred around 10 pm was caught on camera as mediapersons were following the handcuffed duo, who were being taken to the hospital by police for a medical checkup.<br /><br /><br /></p>
<p>The gunmen were allegedly posing as mediapersons and shot at the brothers at close range. </p>
<p>At least three people, who posed as mediapersons, were seen firing from a close range at Ahmad (60) and Ashraf, who fell to the ground. Police soon overpowered the assailants.<br /><br /><br /></p>
<p>”Nahi le gaye to nahi gaye (they did not take us, so we did not go)” were Atiq Ahmed’s last words, when asked what did he have to say on not being taken to his son Asad’s funeral.<br /><br /></p>
<p>The bullet-riddled bodies of Ahmad and Ashraf were taken away from the spot as tension gripped the area after the sensational killings.<br /><br /><br /></p>
<p>The suspects have been identified as Luvlesh Tiwari, Sunny and Arun Maurya. They are under police custody and are being interrogated.</p>
<p>The three assailants had arrived at the spot in disguise of being media persons. They were even carrying a video camera, which is of some obsolete model. They were also carrying some self-made ID of an unknown media channel.<br /><br /><br /></p>
<p>The deaths comes just days after Atiq’s son Asad and his accomplice Ghulam — both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case — were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Uttar Pradesh Police near Jhansi on April 13.<br /></p>
<p>Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Prayagraj as the news of the twin murders spread. Additional forces are being rushed to the district where security has been beefed up.<br /><br /><br /></p>
<p>Police has recovered several rounds of empty cartridges of the weapon which was used to kill Atiq and Ashraf. </p>

Days after Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, the mafia-turned-politician and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were killed on Saturday while being taken for a medical in Prayagraj.
Atiq Ahmad was accused in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case and also in the Umesh Pal murder case which happened in February this year.
Asad was killed on April 13 in an encounter in Jhansi. He was killed along with Ghulam, both of whom were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj.
Each of them carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads.
The police said that foreign-made weapons were recovered.
“Asad, son of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and Ghulam S/o Maksudan, both wanted in Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and carrying a reward of Rupees five lakhs each; killed in encounter with the UPSTF team led by DySP Navendu and DySP Vimal at Jhansi. Sophisticated foreign made weapons recovered,” UP STF said.
Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were brought to the CJM Court in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on the same day Asad was killed in the encounter.
