AMARAVATI: A month after reporting to the Andhra Pradesh government on high court orders, former Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar has applied for voluntary retirement.
Officials told TOI that Somesh sent a representation to AP chief secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy requesting that he be allowed to avail of the voluntary retirement scheme. The file is with CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy pending approval.
As per the revised rules, the state government is empowered to clear — without the Centre’s nod — the VRS application of any All-India Service (AIS) officer who puts in 30 years of service.
Somesh reported to the AP government following the January 12 HC order. He met the chief secretary, reported for duty and also met the CM. The AP government had not given him any assignment since reporting for work. Sources said Somesh may become an adviser to the Telangana government after the VRS application is accepted by the AP government.
After the HC verdict on the repatriation of Somesh to the AP cadre from Telangana, DoPT directed the Telangana government to immediately relieve Somesh Kumar. He is scheduled to retire in December 2023.
