CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate, flag off and lay the foundation stones of airport, railway and highway projects, costing Rs 5,200 crore, in Chennai on Saturday evening.
Modi will arrive in Chennai at 2.45pm. “In Chennai, the new terminal building of Chennai International Airport will be inaugurated. Will also flag off the Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express and take part in the 125th anniversary celebrations of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, Chennai,” Modi tweeted earlier in the day.
The Prime Minister will address the gathering on Alstom cricket ground in Pallavaram in the evening, where governor R N Ravi, chief minister M K Stalin and Union ministers, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and L Murugan and others are expected to participate.
Modi will inaugurate 37km of broad gauge (gauge conversion) on the Thiruthuraipoondi-Agasthiyampalli section, four-lane elevated corridor from Madurai to Chettikulam on NH 785, and four-lane road from Natham to Thuvarankurichi on NH 785. The gauge conversion will facilitate speedy transportation of locally produced edible and industrial salt. The four-lane projects will see congestion-free movement of traffic as local traffic and inter-city is segregated within Madurai.
He will also flag off Tambaram-Sengottai express train which would provide direct rail connectivity from delta districts of Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and Ambasamudram to Chennai, besides a diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train from Thiruthuraipoondi to Agasthiyampalli.
Foundation stone will be laid for construction of a four lanes on the Thirumangalam-Vadugapatti section of NH-744 and on the Vadugapatti-Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744. The four-lane construction would also mean speedy travel for pilgrims visiting Meenakshi temple in Madurai, Andal temple in Srivilliputhur and Sabarimala in Kerala.
