NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at Donald Trump, US President Joe Biden remarked that out of the two candidates who secured their party’s nomination for presidential elections, one was deemed mentally unfit for the presidency.
“One candidate is too old and mentally unfit to be president. The other guy’s me”, Biden said, aiming at Trump.
During his speech, Biden continued to poke fun at Trump, highlighting instances where the former president appeared to be confused or made erroneous statements. “Don’t tell him, he thinks he’s running against Barack Obama, that’s what he said,” Biden said deflecting ongoing criticism that his memory is hazy.
Biden also underscored the significance of a free press in society and expressed his ongoing efforts to support journalists, including those held captive abroad.
This marked Biden’s first attendance at the Gridiron dinner since assuming the presidency, coinciding with the buildup to the 2024 election and the anticipated rematch between Biden and Trump.
