VARANASI: Mauritius PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth performed the ritual of “asthi visarjan” (immersion of ashes) of his father-in-law in the Ganga at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi on Monday.
After taking part in the G20 summit and meeting PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Jugnauth reached Varanasi for the third time since 2019. In April 2022, he had come to immerse the ashes of his father Sir Anerood Jugnauth, the former Mauritian PM. Before that, he had visited Varanasi in January 2019 to attend the 15th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention.
UP minister Anil Rajbhar welcomed the Mauritian PM, who was accompanied by his wife Kobita Jugnauth and other relatives. Amid tight security arrangements, the family performed “shradh” and “asthi visarjan” under the supervision of priests.
