Manipur NEET postponed, fresh date soon

NEW DELHI: A record 20. 9 lakh candidates are set to appear on Sunday in NEET. The exam date for candidates whose test centre was in Manipur will be announced soon as the exam has been postponed in the violence-hit state.
Apart from English and Hindi, the test will be conducted in 11 other Indian languages of which Gujarati (53024), Bengali (43890) and Tamil (30536) are the top three language preferences. NTA has asked candidates to report early for thorough checking if their religion/ custom requires them to wear specific attire.
As first reported by the TOI, 20. 9 lakh candidates have registered this year for over 1. 4 lakh seats, including in private colleges. Thegender gap also breached the 2 lakh-mark with 11. 8 lakh female candidates, 2. 8 lakh more than males, registering for the test. Two states recorded over 2 lakh registrations — Maharashtra (2. 8 lakh) andUP (2. 7 lakh) — and seven over 1 lakh — Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
The pen-paper test will be held at 4,075 centres across India, barring the 22 centres in Manipur. Maharashtra (582) has the largest number of centres, followed by Uttar Pradesh (451) and Rajasthan (343).
As per the instructions, NTA has asked the candidates to mandatorily reach the centres on time indicated in the ‘admit card’ and that no candidates will be allowed to enter the centre after the gate-closing time, nor will they be allowed to leave the exam hall before the end of the test.
Also, no candidates will be allowed entry without admit card, valid ID proof and proper frisking. As per the protocol, “frisking through handheld metal detectors will be carried out without physical touch.”
Inside the centre, candidates will be allowed to carry only a personal transparent water bottle and 50ml of hand sanitiser while no electronic devices will be allowed. NTA stated that there will be no facility for safe keeping of personal belongings at the centres.
NEET-UG is the qualifying entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) and BSc (H) Nursing.
