Pauginmuan, who took 17 bullets when the violence broke out at Thengra Leirak in Manipur on May 3, was brought to the Civil Hospital in Aizawl on Sunday. While four bullets have been extracted from the 25-year-old’s body, the rest are lodged too close to the vascular vein and require advanced medical intervention, reports HC Vanlalruata. Therefore, he was referred to Mizoram from the Churachandpur district hospital as doctors there said they didn’t have the necessary equipment to extract the bullets near the vascular vein.
Meanwhile, 5,822 internally displaced people (IDP) have so far fled Manipur’s hill areas and taken shelter in Mizoram. Aizawl district has surpassed Saitual district in hosting the maximum number of IDP at 2,021.
A press statement issued by Mizo National Youth Front (MNYF) on Sunday claimed that four ‘Zo’ ethnic people – Diamond Thang, Paukhanhual, James Nangminlung and Hatkhanhawih – were airlifted to Guwahati by an Army helicopter due to the efforts of chief minister Zoramthanga. The statement said the four have suffered multiple injuries with bullets embedded in different parts of their bodies and are not in a condition to be taken by road for medical treatment.
