Deshpande walked down the memory lane and shared , “There were two compelling reasons I eagerly embraced the opportunity to be part of Ashutosh Gowariker’s film – the first being the maestro himself, and the second, the mesmerizing song. From the moment I first heard it, I found myself craving its melody in an endless loop. Learning that Ashu intended to capture this enchanting tune on film, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and me, was nothing short of exhilarating.”

Makarand further informed about their reunion with SRK and Ashutosh after their ‘Circus’ days. “Reuniting with Ashutosh and Shah Rukh after our collaboration in the 1990 Circus serial was a nostalgic journey spanning 13 years. Stepping onto Ashutosh’s set felt like revisiting a cherished era of camaraderie and shared laughter from our past. The spirit of friendship that defined our interactions in 1990 seamlessly translated into the Swades experience,” he said.
Makarand sharing about the iconic song told, “we embarked on the shoot, Shah Rukh took charge of driving the caravan, while Ashutosh and Jimmy Jib occupied another vehicle, orchestrating the scenes through Walkie-talkies. I entrusted Shah Rukh with the technical nuances, to which he responded with a confident, “Okay, tera jo aalaap hai woh main karvata hoon.” The shoot was a delightful experience, particularly when it came to a specific dance step choreographed by Raju Khan. Shah Rukh’s easygoing approach was evident when he told the choreographer, “I’ll follow whatever Mac does.” The mastery of the song’s portrayal rested in Ashutosh’s hands. His vision, showcasing me with flowing hair and the soulful alaap, truly brought the character to life. Working with him was a wonderful collaboration, and I applaud the effort put into shooting the travel song with simplicity and authenticity.”
Swades remains etched in my memory as a remarkable film, and “Yun Hi Chala Chal” stands out as an unforgettable musical gem.
