Make e-payments ecosystem inclusive: Ashwini Vaishnaw

[ad_1]

NEW DELHI: IT and communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday spoke about making the digital payments ecosystem inclusive and widespread as he sought a greater push across the country
Vaishnaw launched the Digital Payments Utsav and directed the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as well as various banks to take a lead in the direction. He also shared the PM’s vision of the digital revolution having a transformative impact as it reaches hard-to-reach parts of the country.
The minister said Mission Bhashini — National Language Translation Mission — and digital payments have come together to make ‘UPI 123 Pay’ available in local languages. “This will enable a common person to make payments in local language through voice.”
The Digital Payments Utsav campaign will run between February 9 and October 9, in coordination with all stakeholders, for the promotion of digital payments across the country, with a particular focus on G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) event cities, namely Lucknow, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru. “As India celebrates ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and ‘G20 Presidency’, MeitY endeavours to increase access to easy and convenient digital payment solutions to all citizens,” Vaishnaw said.
The IT ministry said various initiatives will help highlight how digital payments are leading to financial inclusion, while empowering small merchants, street vendors and common people. “The Digital Payment Utsav will also be an opportunity to make digital payments as ‘whole of government’ initiatives in its true spirit with active participation from other ministries.”
