NEW DELHI: The local civic body on Tuesday razed illegal structures and encroachments by bulldozers in Mira Road near Mumbai, two days after violence broke out in the area during a Ram Temple rally.
The Eknath Shinde-led government said that action has been taken against illegal shops and houses where stones were pelted at a procession led by Hindus on Monday.
Notably, the demolition by the Mira Bhaindar Municipal Corporation came a day after Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis warned of strict action against rioters.

Videos of the razing of the stalls have gone viral on social media.
An unspecified number of processionists and policemen providing security to the march were injured in the stone attack in the area.
A huge contingent of police personnel, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) team, was deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
According to the police, the scuffle broke in the Naya Nagar area after some people belonging to the Hindu community took out a rally in 3-4 vehicles while raising slogans.
A mob armed with iron rods, sticks, and bats shouted religious slogans and assaulted the man whose car was part of the procession comprising three vehicles and 10 two-wheelers, police had said.
Earlier today, the police arrested a person who was seen provoking people in a viral video on social media.
“Several videos of the clash between two communities in Mira Road adjacent to Mumbai went viral on social media. A video of a person named Abu Shaikh went viral where he was seen provoking people. The person who posted this video has been arrested and Mira Bhayander police have sought two days of custody,” DCP Jayant Bajbale said.
The police also registered a case of attempt to murder against 50-60 persons and took 13 of them in custody.
The incident took place on the eve of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony in Ayodhya.
