L&T bags EPC contract from GMR for Bhogapuram airport construction in AP

HYDERABAD: Infrastructure giant L&T Construction on Monday said it has bagged a large EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the construction of the greenfield Bhogapuram international airport in Andhra Pradesh from GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited.
The large project, classified by L&T in the Rs 2,500-Rs 5,000 crore, has been secured by L&T Construction’s buildings & factories & transportation infrastructure businesses.
The project is to be initially developed for a capacity to handle 6 MPPA (million passengers per annum) which is to be further enhanced to a capacity for handling 12 MPPA.
The key development works as part of the EPC contract includes cut & fill works, terminal works with airports systems, ATC tower, airfield development works (south runway 3800m length, apron, taxiways, airfield ground lighting, fuel hydrant works & other facilities), landside facilities (roads, landscapes), utilities and other support facilities.
L&T said the order reinforces its capability to deliver a greenfield airport project end-to-end, affirms its EPC capabilities and strengthens the trust and satisfaction reposed by customers demonstrated by this repeat order from GMR.
The $23 billion turnover L&T, which operates in 50 countries, is already executing the construction works of major airports at Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Navi Mumbai.
