Louis Tomlinson Recalls Feeling ‘Mortified’ When One Direction Split, Reveals Which Bandmate Made Him Jealous & Comments on Possibility of Reunion

Louis Tomlinson got very candid about his feelings at the time One Direction went on hiatus and about the band’s future.

The extremely popular boy band went on an indefinite hiatus back in 2016 after Zayn Malik had already departed to pursue a solo career.

The dissolution of the band hit Louis hard, with him recently explaining that he felt “mortified” by the news in an interview. He also opened up about the possibility of a reunion with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn.

“I was mortified, I was absolutely gutted,” Louis told The Sunday Times about the split. “I was a bit bitter, I suppose because it just felt like another loss to me.”

He explained that his feelings have evolved over the years so that now, he’s got “a better understanding of things.”

“There’s not as much anger. It is what it is,” the hitmaker added.

Louis touched on Harry‘s rise to fame, with a string of successful albums and singles. He dubbed his bandmate’s success “not a surprise.”

“We were always aware that Harry fit that mold, and it’s been an amazing thing to watch,” he said. “Envy? At the start maybe, when I was trying to find my feet, but it’s never healthy to cross-reference your own success with others is it? These days I’m learning to elevate myself in those moments when I have to. I didn’t know how to do that before, but now? Now I know I f-cking can.”

Harry thanked his bandmates when he was giving a speech after sweeping his nominations at the 2023 BRIT Awards.

Is there any chance of a One Direction reunion in his mind?

“Getting back together at some point is hard to imagine right now,” Louis opined.

That doesn’t mean that he’ll rule it out entirely. He continued, noting that, “I’d be surprised if we lived out our lives and didn’t have a moment where we had a reunion, or whatever you want to call it. I’d be up for that.”

Last year Louis revealed if he and the rest of the band are still in touch.
