NEW DELHI: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has replied to the Lok Sabha secretariat’s notice to vacate the official bungalow by April 22.
“As an elected Member of Lok Sabha over last 4 terms, it is the mandate of the people to which I owe the happy memories of my time spent here. Without prejudice to my rights, I will, of course, abide by the details contained in your letter,” Rahul Gandhi said in his replied on Tuesday.
Rahul Gandhi, a Z-plus protectee, has been living in the 12, Tughlaq Lane bungalow since 2005.
The Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi to vacate his official accommodate following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha. The allotment of the bungalow “shall deem to have been cancelled from April 24, 2023”, according to the letter issued to Gandhi.
A senior official said an MP has to vacate the official bungalow within one month of losing his membership.
A Surat court had convicted Gandhi in a criminal defamation case on March 23 and sentenced him to two years in jail. The two-year jail term triggered his disqualification as Lok Sabha member from the date of the verdict. Gandhi was granted bail to allow him to appeal to a higher court in a month.
