“There are so many memories. I am from Amritsar, and the Lohri of Amritsar is really famous. Early morning by 6 the speakers are set on the terrace, and the Punjabi songs are played at high volume. Interestingly, since every terrace party had a deck and Punjabi songs on high volume, the person who would listen to it from the street would only hear loud noise since so many songs used to be played simultaneously,” said Rajiv talking to ETimes exclusively.
“So you hear Hans Raj Hans from one end, Sardool Sikander from another, and somewhere you will hear Babbu Maan. And in mid of all that you hear ‘Ayi boo’ and whatnot from the kite flying folks,” he added.
For the uninitiated, flying kites is one of the traditions on Lohri which brings a lot of joy to people. And remembering the childhood days when Lohri was all about flying kites, Rajiv shared, “Since I was from a poor family, we used to decide that we will not fly a kite, we will just snatch. So our focus used to be on collecting kites and by the end of the day, all our friends used to sit together and count.” “Then the next day we used to fly kites, so our Lohri used to be celebrated a day after the actual festival,” concluded the actor.
On the work front, Rajiv Thakur has made it to the theaters with his latest movie ‘Kanjus Majnu Kharchili Laila’ today. It is a family entertainer with Shehnaz Sehar in the lead with Thakur.
