HYDERABAD: A Greyhounds junior commando died after he came in contact with a live wire, allegedly set up by animal poachers in the forest area of Mahadevpur in Jayashankar Bhupalpally in Telangana late on Sunday night.
Police are investigating who set up the illegal power line, which led to the death of A Praveen, who was part of a combing operation against Maoists in the forest area.Police said after his hand came in contact with a live wire, he died on the spot. “Initially, Praveen suffered a shock to his foot. He lost balance and was about to fall, when his hand came in contact with the wire and it became fatal,” a senior police officer told TOI. Police said Praveen, 34, was part of Telangana State Special Police’s 15th battalion. He is survived by his wife and two children. He is a native of Adilabad district.
“The location where the live wire was set up illegally was inside a forest area, which must be the handiwork of some villagers, or others, who are into poaching of animals. Chances of Maoists doing this is ruled out,” an officer said.
