Konkona Sensharma recently shared her perspective on on-screen violence while talking about portraying a negative character of Swathi in her web series Killer Soup. She expressed her reservations about being a part of Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, adding that she doesn’t have a problem with the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial.
She told India Today that she has not watched Animal as yet, and perhaps she will give it a shot at home, explaining that it is not the film she is naturally drawn to.She mentioned that she is not the film’s target audience, and it has got enough love from enough people. “But I haven’t watched Animal, and I don’t have a problem with it per se,” she said.
Elaborating on her stance, Konkona said that films should not be seen as a guidebook for life. “I don’t think films need to depict how we should live. It is not a playbook. Films are not a manifesto. They are not supposed to be propaganda films. For me, films are like an exploration of life; it is like a creative expression,” she stated.

Konkona clarified that she doesn’t personally have a problem with violence or gore on screen if there’s a valid reason behind its portrayal and has been done imaginatively to a great end, or a filmmaker is not condoning the violence.

The actress then highlighted that her show Killer Soup uses metaphors and it acknowledges that the characters aren’t morally upright. “In our case, in Killer Soup, you are aware that this is not to be taken seriously, and a lot of things being portrayed are metaphors. Also, one talks about the moral integrity of Swathi, but Umesh and Prabhakar are no righteous people, and the show acknowledges that,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Konkona recently appeared with Ranbir Kapoor in an ad inspired by their respective characters in Wake Up Sid. It prompted their fans to do a sequel of the film, expressing how they loved their chemistry in the Ayan Mukerji directorial.
