Key appointments in central government’s security agencies: New heads named for NIA, NDRF, and BPR&D | India News

NEW DELHI: The Central government appointed IPS officer Sadanand Vasant Date as the new Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Date, a 1990-batch IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, currently holding the position of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief is succeeding the outgoing chief Dinkar Gupta. His tenure will be till December 31, 2026.
Meanwhile, IPS officer Piyush Anand, a 1991-batch officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been assigned as the head of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), replacing Atul Karwal.Currently serving as the Special DG of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Anand will hold the position for a period of two years from assuming office.
In another key appointment, IPS officer Rajeev Kumar from the Rajasthan cadre has been named as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). Kumar’s tenure will be extended until June 30, 2026, or until further notice, as the current Director General of the BPR&D, Balaji Srivastava, is set to retire on March 31st.
With the assumption of their new roles, the newly appointed officials are anticipated to introduce innovative approaches and proactive initiatives to tackle evolving security threats, thus guaranteeing the ongoing safety and security of the nation and its populace.
