Kelvin Harrison Jr Opens Up About Why ‘Chevalier’s Sex Scenes Made Him Nervous | Kelvin Harrison Jr., Movies : Just Jared

But instead of being nervous about portraying Chevalier’s master music skills on the big screen, the 28-year-old actor was more anxious about the sex scenes in the movie.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kelvin opened up about how he didn’t sweat his scenes showing off Chevalier’s violin skills at all (he’s been trained in that for two decades), it was the intimate scenes where he was hesitant about things.

“Any type of intimacy, being naked in a bed, it always gave me the heebie-jeebies: ‘What’s this gonna be like and how awkward is this gonna be?’” he recalled. “I’m used to doing indies, and everything’s really rough and raw. You barely have makeup on, and you’re just like a [normal] person.”

However, with this particular flick, which is set in the 18th century, it’s “so pretty, so everyone’s all done up. I remember being like, ‘Yo, can I just like lay in the bed normal?’ And [director Stephen Williams] was like, ‘You just need to find the light.’ And so I’m laying on this pillow, acting like I’m an ingenue in this moment with Samara [Weaving] trying to be the prettiest period icon I could be in this sex scene.”

Chevalier, which also stars Lucy Boynton, Samara Weaving, Minnie Driver, and Ronke Adekoluejo, is in theaters now.
