HYDERABAD: Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao announced Wednesday a Rs 1,000-crore plan to renovate the Kondagattu temple dedicated to Hanuman in Jagtial, 200km from Hyderabad, that draws thousands of devotees in the belief that praying there heals the sick and answers wishes of childless couples.
Also known as Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy, the temple surrounded by hills is popular with celebs and politicians – KCR’s daughter K Kavitha and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan are frequent visitors. Around 10 lakh pilgrims throng the shrine during Hanuman Jayanthi and about 20,000 every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
KCR’s announcement followed the revamp of Yadadri, the abode of Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, often touted as Telangana’s Tirumala. The state government had budgeted Rs 1,800 crore for Yadadri and the new temple was inaugurated in March last year by KCR. The CM had also announced development of Bhadrachalam temple and Vemulawada temple, where work began a few years ago.
KCR visited the Kondagattu temple on Wednesday and said Rs 500 crore of the total amount will be sanctioned this fiscal. This corpus is over and above Rs 100 crore, already sanctioned a few days ago. He surveyed the temple complex straddling 750-800 acre along with architect Ananda Sai, authorities and priests, and later held a review meeting.
