Jharkhand: 16 drown in six incidents in Bihar and Jharkhand in 24 hours

PATNA/BOKARO/DUMKA: As many as 16 people drowned in six tragedies in Bihar and Jharkhand since Monday. While nine persons died in four Bihar districts, seven minor girls lost their lives in two Jharkhand districts.
In Bihar’s Nalanda, five girls went to immerse the idols in a pond in Sosandi village on Tuesday when they slipped into the depths. While two of them – aged 8 and 10 – drowned, the other three were rescued by villagers.
In Jharkhand’s Giridih district, five girls went to collect soil from Budhwaahar pond for Karma puja on Tuesday. Four of them – aged between 10 and 17 – drowned.
On Monday, three people drowned in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district; three more died while bathing at Sirsi ghat in Samastipur, while a 14-year-old boy drowned in the Ganga in Munger.
In Jharkhand’s Sahibganj, three girls drowned in a river on Monday.
