Jawan hurt in Maoist IED blast in Bijapur | India News

A Bastar Fighters jawan was injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Kavadgaon in Bijapur’s Gangaloor on Friday .
A joint team of Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards was on a combing operation near the newly built Hiroli police camp when jawan Arvind Ekka inadvertently stepped on a camouflaged pressure IED, 3km from the base. It exploded, shattering his right leg.He was given primary treatment at Pusnar unit hospital, and then flown to Raipur.
Skirmishes have been an almost daily affair this month after the security forces went on the offensive following a string of Maoist attacks. Ambushes and IED blasts have killed three security personnel and injured eight. Maoists put IEDs to deadly effect, planting them on forest paths and roads used by the forces. Police have defused over 180 IEDs in Bijapur alone this year.
