Jaishankar: India-China ties are not normal & won’t be so till peace on border returns: Jaishankar | India News

BENAULIM: Foreign minister S Jaishankar on Friday said China’s position that everything else could continue while the main problems were not addressed effectively was not acceptable.
His remark came in response to queries about China’s readout of the Jaishankar-Qin meeting in which it said his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang had told Jaishankar the border situation was stable and that China was ready to work with India to carry out bilateral consultations to bring relations “back on the track of sound and stable development”.
He said it may be the endeavour of the Chinese to project a certain picture, but India would not play along.
“To suggest somehow the relationship is normal and that everything else can continue while the relevant issues or the central problems are not being effectively addressed… this won’t wash. There are issues we need to discuss and need to be clear about it,” he said.
While India has so far been unwavering in its stand that disengagement has to be completed in the remaining areas in eastern Ladakh for bilateral ties to return to normal, China continues to insist that the relationship should not remain hostage to the border issue.
According to China, Qin Gang told S Jaishankar that the two countries should draw experience and lessons from history and steer bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.
China, however, has paid little attention also to India’s concerns over the China Pakistan Economic Corridor that passes through PoK.
Jaishankar said on Friday that he had made it clear to all present in the SCO meeting that connectivity initiatives must not violate sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member-states. “I can assure you those who were in the room had no doubt about it,” he said.
During his visit to Goa, the Qin Gang, according to Chinese media, highlighted the “spirit” of Dr Kotnis by meeting his relatives. Kotnis remains a legendary figure in China for his medical assistance to the Chinese during their War of Resistance against Japan.
