NEW DELHI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has sought 8 to 10 days of time for a detailed response to a notice he received from the Delhi Police for his remark during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he stated that “women are still being sexually assaulted.”
According to sources, the former Congress president, in his preliminary reply, has also questioned the “sudden urgency” demonstrated by the police after a delay of nearly 45 days.
In a four-page, 10-point reply to the notice, Rahul questioned the process and procedure adopted by the cops 45 days after his speech, sources said.
Calling the Delhi Police notice an “unprecedented action”, Rahul asked whether it was due to his stand on the Adani issue, sources said.

The former Congress chief, the sources said, asked whether any other political party, including the ruling party, has been subjected to such kind of scrutiny or questioning over their political campaigns.
Earlier on Sunday, the Delhi Police visited the residence of the Congress leader in connection with the notice.
Rahul assured the cops that he will share all necessary information about the claims that he had made during his padyatra speech in Srinagar.
During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, Rahul Gandhi had reportedly stated, “I have heard that women are still being sexually assaulted.”
Police had asked him to give details of these victims so that security could be provided to them, the officials said.
Terming it a serious matter, Special Commissioner of Police Hooda said after Gandhi made his remark, they conducted a local inquiry to collect details if any woman had approached Gandhi during the Yatra’s Delhi leg about their ordeal.
“But no such incident came to the notice of our officials also nor did we find any victim,” the officer said.
Hooda said that after he failed to collect any information in this regard, they decided to approach the Congress leader himself and accordingly, a notice with a questionnaire was also sent to him seeking details of victims who approached him about sexual harassment.
This was the third time that Gandhi was approached in this regard, police said, adding they want to initiate a probe into the matter as soon as they get details about the victims.
