International Flights: This winter 80 international airlines to link 23 Indian cities to 50 countries on 10% more direct flights

NEW DELHI: India’s international connectivity this winter schedule (WS) will be almost 10% more than last winter. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a schedule of 2,336 weekly flights in and out of India by 80 foreign airlines, 9.4% more than 2,136 last winter by 75 foreign airlines. Effective October 29, the schedule approved for these 80 airlines offers 5.9 lakh seats per week, up from last winter’s 5.5 lakh, says DGCA data.These 80 include El Al that has postponed resumption of India flights due to the situation there.
The number of Indian cities seeing international flights by foreign airlines remain at 23, same as last winter. These are: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bangalore, Calicut (Kozhikode), Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Trivandrum, Tirchy, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.
India will have direct flights by the foreign airlines to 50 countries, instead of 47 last winter. These 50 are: Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Canada, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, UK, USA, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Seven airlines will start or restart flights to the country this winter — Nigeria’s Air Peace; Indonesia’s Batik Air; Belarus’ Belavia; Alitalia successor ITA Airways; Italy’s Neos S.P.A; Thailand’s Nok Air and Uganda Airlines. While Israel’s El Al was to start flights from November, the same have been postponed due to the situation there. France’s Air Austral, Oman’s Salam Air and Yemen Airways will not be operating this winter to India. WS 2023-24 is effective from October 29, 2023, to March 30, 2024.
“Eighty scheduled foreign carriers have applied for approval of their international schedule… A total of 2,336 departures per week have been approved to/from 23 stations in India to 50 countries,” said the statement.
