India rejects statement by Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Supreme Court verdict on Article 370

NEW DELHI: India has rejected a statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on a judgment of the Supreme Court upholding the abrogation of Article 370 that guaranteed special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC on Wednesday expressed concern over the apex court order, which on Monday, ruled that Article 370 was a temporary provision.
The OIC General Secretariat, however, reiterated its call to reverse all illegal and unilateral measures taken by India ever since, seeking to change the internationally-recognised disputed status of the territory.
In a post shared on X, the OIC said: “OIC General Secretariat expresses concern over the Indian Supreme Court’s Judgment Upholding the Unilateral Actions Taken by the Indian Government on 5th August 2019 that Stripped the Special Status of the Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”
“It is both ill-informed and ill-intended. That OIC does so at the behest of a serial violator of human rights and an unrepentant promoter of cross-border terrorism makes its action even more questionable. Such statements only undermine OIC’s credibility,” Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, said.
Meanwhile, the General Secretariat also reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir “in their quest for the right of self-determination and reiterated its call on the international community to enhance its efforts to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir by the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions”.
