Hyderabad firm Franklin EV to double manufacturing capacity by 2023 end

HYDERABAD: Franklin EV, a Hyderabad-based electric scooter manufacturer, plans to double its manufacturing capacities at its Cherlapally plant here by the end of 2023.
Spread over two acres, the plant currently has a capacity to produce around 100 electric two-wheelers per shift per day.
“We plan to expand capacities at an additional investment of Rs 50 crore as we have plans to export our e-scooters to newer international markets such as Myanmar and Bhutan, among others,” Franklin EV founder Shashidhar Kumar said.
The company currently exports its EVs to markets such as Nepal and Bangladesh as well as the African continent in addition to catering to the domestic market.
The expansion will also see the company ramp up its headcount from the existing 110 employees to over 300 by December 2023.
Franklin EV, which rolled out its offerings in 2021 and currently has a presence primarily in the South Indian market in India, is looking at 100% localisation by April this year.
