PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: The Department of Post has launched a registration campaign for the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, aiming to help up to one crore families across India in installing solar panels on their rooftops. Here’s how you can apply for this scheme:
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) dated February 29 stated, “Postmen will assist households in registration.We encourage all individuals to engage and take advantage of this opportunity for a cleaner, cost-effective energy future. Postmen will assist households in registration. For more info, visit https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ or contact the area postman. Please visit your nearest Post Office for further details.”

What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

This scheme offers free electricity to households opting for solar power systems on their rooftops. Participants will receive 300 units of free power every month.

Subsidy amount

Based on current benchmark prices, this translates to a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system, and Rs 78,000 for a 3 kW system or larger, as per the PIB release.

Low-interest loan products

Households can access collateral-free, low-interest loan products at around 7% interest rates for installing residential rooftop solar (RTS) systems up to 3 kW.

Here’s how to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:

Step 1: Register on the portal by selecting your State & Electricity Distribution Company. Enter your Electricity Consumer Number, Mobile Number & Email.
Step 2: Login using your Consumer Number & Mobile Number. Apply for Rooftop Solar using the provided form.
Step 3: Upon receiving feasibility approval, have the solar plant installed by any registered vendors in your DISCOM.
Step 4: After installation, submit the plant details and apply for a net meter.
Step 5: A commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal after net meter installation and DISCOM inspection.
Step 6: Once you receive the commissioning report, submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. Your subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.
