How rich is Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam? Assets declared in nomination papers reveal details

NEW DELHI: In a detailed disclosure of assets submitted with her nomination for the National Assembly seat NA-119, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief organiser Maryam Nawaz has revealed a substantial wealth portfolio, according to a report by Geo News.
Maryam declared assets exceeding Rs 84.258 crore in her nomination papers for the NA-119 constituency.Her papers were approved by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on December 30 for various constituencies, including two National Assembly seats (NA-119 and NA-120) and four Punjab Assembly constituencies (PP-159, PP-160, PP-165, and PP-80).
Maryam’s real estate assets prominently feature in the disclosure, showcasing ownership of more than 1500 kanals of land in various areas of Lahore, collectively valued at an impressive Rs 84.035 crore.
Contrary to traditional displays of affluence, Maryam Nawaz does not possess any personal vehicle. This disclosure contradicts the asset statements filed by her husband, retired captain Muhammad Safdar Awan, from 2012-2016. Safdar mentioned a 2006 model BMW as a gift from the UAE, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh.
She declared an ownership of gold worth Rs 17.5 lakh and over one crore rupees in various bank accounts and cash.
In terms of ownership in the corporate sector, Maryam Nawaz also has 11.2 lakh shares in various companies, collectively valued at Rs 12.2 lakh. The details further showcase a noteworthy year-on-year increase in her assets, demonstrating a growth of over Rs 40 lakh in the past year.
Additionally, Maryam Nawaz provided loans of Rs 67.5 lakh to Swift Energy Pvt Ltd and claimed a Rs 17.6 lakh income tax refund.
The official document further highlighted a debt of over Rs 2.89 crore owed by Maryam Nawaz to her brother, Hassan Nawaz.
Pakistan’s general elections are scheduled for Februrary 8, 2024. The upper house of Pakistan’s parliament passed a resolution to postpone the national elections set for February 8, citing concerns related to security and weather conditions.
