NEW DELHI: The Hardwar Lok Sabha constituency, one of Uttarakhand’s five parliamentary constituencies, covers parts of Dehradun and Haridwar districts. Established in 1977 during the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, it was reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates from 1977 to 2009.
The voting for the 2024 Hardwar Lok Sabha Constituency Election is scheduled for April 19th (Phase 1), as declared by the Election Commission of India on March 16.The counting and result announcement are slated for June 4th.
Renowned for its significant influence in Indian politics, the Hardwar Lok Sabha Constituency remains a crucial political battleground reflecting a diverse demographic. In the upcoming 2024 elections, notable candidates include Jameel Ahmed from Bahujan Samaj Party, Trivendra Singh Rawat from Bharatiya Janata Party, and Virender Rawat from Indian National Congress.
In the fiercely contested 2019 General Assembly Elections, Hardwar witnessed a voter turnout of 68.92%. BJP candidate Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ emerged victorious with a substantial margin of 258,729 votes, securing 665,674 votes. He defeated Ambrish Kumar of the INC, who garnered 406,945 votes.
In the 2014 elections, BJP nominated the former chief minister of Uttarakhand, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Nishank triumphed over Congress leader Harish Rawat’s wife, Renuka Rawat, with a margin of 151,906 votes. While Renuka received 398,340 votes, Nishank secured 567,662 votes.
