RANCHI: Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday till Feb 13 in the land scam case, but the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court said it would hear on Friday ED’s plea to secure 10-day custody of Soren.
During the hearing, assistant solicitor general Anil Kumar requested 10 days’ ED remand for interrogation. ED claimed Soren knows the Ranchi land scam accused and former Bargai circle inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, who is incarcerated in Birsa Munda Central Jail.
ED accused Soren of concealing land records and illegally declaring the properties acquired as clean. Custody was needed to confront the accused with available evidence regarding illegal acquisition of properties, it added.
Representing Soren, advocate general Rajiv Ranjan opposed ED’s request for custody, arguing that ED has not produced any document to support its allegations against Soren.
