VARANASI: Five members of a family died and another sustained grievous injuries in an accident on Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh district of UP late on Saturday night when their vehicle hit a bamboo-laden tractor-trolley from behind.
Police said the family was going from Lucknow to Ghazipur in an SUV when, at 11.30pm, their vehicle hit the tractor-trolley near Khadarampur village. Owing to darkness, the driver could not see bamboos protruding out of the trolley and hit them from behind. The impact of the collision was so strong that the roof panel of the SUV flew off. The bamboos penetrated the chests of most of the occupants of the vehicle.
The five deceased, all of whom died on the spot were Kailash (45), who was drivingthe SUV, his wife Neetu (38), Dukkhi (43), Guddi (40), and Rani (11).
