Exclusive: I don’t think Aisha and Sid would’ve ended up together, shares Konkona Sen Sharma

[ad_1]

Some movies have a magical feeling about them that refuses to leave us. Ayan Mukerji’s Wake Up Sid starring the unconventional pairing of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma was one of those. The film completes 14 years today and so do the beautifully flawed characters. In an exclusive conversation with Konkona Sen Sharma, the actress talks about her first interaction with Ranbir Kapoor, her thoughts on a sequel and more. Excerpts…
Wake Up Sid

With Wake Up Sid, Aisha Banerjee turns 14 too – what would you tell her today if you met her?

If I met Aisha today, I would tell her I’m proud of her and that she’s been an inspiration to so many young women who come to Mumbai make a home in Mumbai and have become independent here. It’s almost like a coming away story of Aisha, not only did she inspire Sid, but a lot of young women too.
Wake Up Sid

Do you recall the first scene you shot for Wake Up Sid
I am fairly certain that the first scene I shot for Aisha is that college party where Sid meets her. You know she’s just sitting in the corner and writing her diary. I remember we had made this whole look for Aisha, slightly kind of a bohemian look. We wanted her to stand apart from the college crowd a bit, a little different, a little older and Manish Malhotra had done such a wonderful job of that. So yeah, that was my first shot.
Wake Up Sid

Your first interaction with Ranbir on the sets…
I think it must have been the rehearsals and not on the first day of the shoot. Ayan was good with the preparation. Credit goes to him because he did such a fantastic job of writing the characters and making them come alive. I remember we used to talk about what books Aisha may have read, coming up with a background story together. Those days, there were CDs, and he gave me a CD of Aisha’s favourite songs, the old movie songs. I think Ranbir and I first met for a rehearsal. It was an easy equation.
Wake Up Sid

Your most favourite scene in the film
My favourite scene is the birthday cake Sid makes for Aisha, it is the sweetest thing. The bread and jam cake with that little candle on top. “You me and a cup of Chai”, that’s what Sid always says to Aisha, it’s my favourite scene. Thanks to Aisha I got to see a lot of South Bombay. Chor Bazaar and Asiatic Library and all. Aisha was interested in all of that and because I had just moved to Mumbai a few years back, thanks to her I got to see the city a lot.
Wake Up Sid

If we get a sequel, what will your image of Sid and Aisha be?
Realistically, because everyone has that one big romance in their life. Not everyone marries their first love which can be a good or a bad thing. I think it’ll be fun to see if there is a sequel, they are with other people and they meet again and they have that one interesting conversation. A whole Before Sunrise and Before Sunset scene. That would be interesting.
