Contrary to what people outwardly portray, everyone is a sucker for love (there, we said it) – however, not the pretentious, rose-tinted, I can do anything for you sort of love, but the one that well, feels like HOME. A love that makes you feel safe, secure, comfortable and becomes a part of you, almost like breathing – you know it is constantly happening, but you don’t stop and pay attention to it everyday.

Having said that, love can be immensely messy too – replete with misunderstandings, ego clashes, trust issues and the constant struggle to co-exist (somewhat) peacefully with someone, who you had never lived with before.

In such a scenario, keeping amarriage afloat requires more than lust, kids, international holidays and fine dine soirées; what it does require is an insane amount of perseverance, patience and the ability to let go (in more ways than one). Of course the fun and frolic is great too, and immensely important to keep the spark alive, but deep down it is much more, and does not always follow a linear path…
Now imagine all this and couple it with the pressure of being constantly under the lens of scrutiny and pair it with a relationship that can be riddled with trust issues, battles against time, insecurity, and you have a celebrity couple on hand. Privy to all this, celeb marriages all across the world are fragile and vulnerable and often break down. Of course there are many, many exceptions (with SRK-Gauri topping the list), and in recent years, Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone seem to be walking down that path and their latest appearance on Koffee With Karan seemed to cement that fact.
For starters, the duo could not have been more different from each other, with Deepika exclaiming that she is married to Rocky Randhawa in real-life! A loud, boisterous, full of life Sindhi boy falls in love and marries a South Indian girl, (as her father would say from a ‘boring’ family) – poised, polished and daughter of one of the most well known sports personalities in the country. Yet as cliche as that might sound, the duo fell passionately in love and Ranveer proposed marriage before someone else could! (or as he said, isse pehle koi aaye, main chappal rakh ke aa gaya). The Advance Booking (as DP called it) turned out to a blockbuster, and the two have now been married for 5 years and going strong as ever.
From an outsider pov, what makes their marriage work is that there seems to be a deep level of trust between the two, which (especially in the case of celeb marriages) is so important, since the relationship can be subject to excessive gossip and misunderstandings. Whether it is Ranveer’s on-screen histrionics or Deepika’s sultry avatars, the duo have well-established the fact that this is their career, and they gotta do what needs to be done. No drama, no pretence, just simply ‘keeping your personal and professional lives separate’ strategy.
The other thing that is beautiful about their union is how incredibly supportive Ranveer was when Deepika was going through depression and how he created that ‘safe space’ for her to vent her feelings, so that she did not fear being judged or thought less of. Anyone who suffers from a mental illness will know what a huge green flag this is. The desire to just listen is terribly underrated and Ranveer seems to have done well on that front. Just being there for his partner, not trying to save her (there are experts who will help her do that), but unassumingly acknowledging that he is around, if she needs to talk.
Of course, the duo also kept it real and did not sugar-coat anything and reinstated what has been said for decades now. Marriage requires a tremendous amount of WORK. DP said, “I think any marriage is work, whether you’re a part of this industry or outside it. Marriage is work, and it’s work every day.”

She also said that marriage is not always easy and that is OKAY.
“If anyone is under the impression that in marriages you wake up every morning and the sun is shining, and someone says, ‘Hey baby, your coffee is ready’, that’s not what marriage is. Sure, you might have certain days that are like that, but marriage is work. And the work is what makes it beautiful, ” she added.
Blame it on fairy tales or closer home social media (we all know a couple who is constantly love bombing our insta feeds), we have built up a rather delusional idea of love and want it to be PERFECT. Like all relationships in the world, your relationship with your partner will ebb and flow constantly. If you have chased the rainbows together, then be prepared to weather the storms together, too. Of course factors like commitment, honesty, trust, loyalty and unflinching respect should be non-negotiable, regardless of the nature of your marriage.

Ranveer and Deepika are the classic examples of a power couple. Both extremely successful, powerful and enjoying widespread love and adulation from millions across the world. While this might sound like a perfect union, it can also turn into a recipe for disaster, if not handled with care. Contrary to what we believe, celebs DON’T always have it easy and the name, fame and money apart, they often strive for a ‘normal’ existence, which culminates into the desire of staying in a ‘regular’ marriage with their spouse. Under these circumstances, it is easy to get swayed away and for insecurity to sweep in unabashedly, hence, witnessing a healthy celeb marriage deserves to be spoken about (drum rolls please!)
Marriage is not always a 50-50, but as long as each partner is putting in efforts (even though not always proportional), you will sail through. Till then, while we are not sure if manifesting really helps, but here we are, manifesting to find someone who looks at us the same way Ranveer and DP look at each other. (one can still dream right?)
