‘Elections could be held anytime’: Nitish Kumar reiterates claim of Lok Sabha polls before 2024 schedule | India News

NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday once again claimed that the next Lok Sabha elections could be held before its 2024 schedule. “The elections could be held any time. There is no guarantee that they will adhere to the original schedule,” Nitish Kumar said today.
This is the second time that Nitish Kumar has spoken about the possibility of early Lok Sabha elections. Earlier in June, ahead of the opposition parties meeting, the Bihar chief minister had said: “Who knows when the (Lok Sabha) elections will happen? It is not necessary that the elections will be held next year. Koi thikana hai? (Is there any guarantee?).”
Nitish is not the only opposition leader to predict early Lok Sabha elections. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had also made a similar claim at a rally on Monday. “I suspect the BJP may hold elections this December itself, they may do so in January as well,” Mamata had said on the occasion of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad Foundation Day. “The BJP has booked all helicopters ahead of the parliament elections so that no other party can get any. This is their state. They think that money can buy anything,” she had added.
Nitish Kumar also hinted at the possibility of some parties of the ruling National Democratic Alliance joining the opposition front INDIA.
“It is not appropriate to say anything now. Please wait for some time, you will get to know when parties leave the ruling coalition and join us,” he said.
The Congress had on Sunday claimed that four to five parties among the 38 that had attended the meeting of BJP-led NDA are in touch with the INDIA alliance and some of them will join the opposition bloc in the coming days.
On opposition to his government’s caste census, Nitish Kumar said “It is a good move that will help a lot of people and hence there is political opposition to it.”
