Digital: Desi firm gets Rs 22cr Adani contract for digital twin mapping of Asia’s largest slum Dharavi

NEW DELHI: In a boost for the homegrown leader in the Indian mapping industry, Mumbai-headquartered Genesys International has won a contract to deploy its state-of-the-art digital twin mapping technology for the redevelopment project for Asia’s largest slum cluster Dharavi.
The contract, which has come from Adani Groupcompany Portsmouth Buildcon Private Ltd, is valued at Rs 22 crore (excluding GST) and is a testament to Genesys’ reputation as a leading force in mapping innovation, a company official said.The project is likely to be completed within nine month and promises a transformation of Dharavi’s landscape and urban planning.
The mapping initiative aligns seamlessly with Mumbai city’s long-standing goal of revitalising key areas and underscores Genesys’ commitment to pushing the boundaries of mapping technology, a statement from the company said, adding the Oyster 3D Maps platform, renowned for its precision and innovation, will play a pivotal role in this project.
The Dharavi mapping contract came just weeks after Genesys inked a strategic tie-up with Survey of India (SoI) for a three-dimensional (3D) digital twin-mapping programme in India and thus becoming the first company to have a first public-private agreement with SoI for digital twin-mapping.
Talking to TOI, Sajid Malik, CMD of Genesys International, said, “It will be one of the most complex mapping projects for us. And that is where the advantage of digital twin mapping technology will come in as it can map the most challenging area. This is a major step for social and financial inclusion (of a segment of people). When you map out a society or a particular area, you are creating an ability to transform the lives of people. We are hoping to improve the lives of hundreds and thousands of people in the area.”
On other big projects being handled by Genesys, Malik told TOI, “In India, we have created or are in the process of creating digital twin mapping of several Indian cities, including Ayodhya, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Surat. In fact, we have got an entire digital twin mapping programme for the country. Recently, we signed a contract with the Survey of India for the 3D digital twin-mapping programme.” The company has also recently bagged the digital twin project for the holy shrine of Mecca by the Saudi government.
Digital twin technology creates a virtual replica of physical assets such as buildings, machines or vehicles and allows businesses to create an identical virtual copy of an asset and monitor its performance, simulate different conditions and analyse data to make informed decisions.
On its experiences with mapping unplanned areas like slums, the Genesys CMD said, “We had done some areas for the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA, Mumbai). But this will be the first such project for the entire Dharavi. We have a plan to finish the project within nine months. If there are no extreme weather events, we will certainly meet the deadline.”
