Rajkummar Rao recently revealed that he was initially cast as a parallel lead with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Anurag Kashyap‘s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur‘. However, the script was later changed and he ended up doing a small role in the film.
The actor revealed that Anurag watched ‘Love Sex Aur Dhoka’ and called him. According to Rajkummar, that was his plan; he was hoping that filmmakers would watch LSD and take a shot with him.The filmmaker told the actor that he was making ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. At that stage, the film was about his character and Nawaz’s. It was about their rivalry. Rao was thrilled to have gotten an Anurag Kashyap film after LSD, and that too as a parallel lead, he told Mashable India in an interview.

Rajkummar and Nawaz even started prepping for their roles and spent about 10 days in the Wasseypur area to get the hang of the dialect. However, one day, Anurag called him up and told him that he had changed ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ quite a bit and that it was now a two-parter and his character wasn’t going to be as prominent as it originally was. Although the director told Rajkummar that it was fine if he drops out, he didn’t.

The actor went on to add that he is glad he did the role despite its limited scope because it is on the sets of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ Rajkummar met casting director Mukesh Chhabra, who introduced him to Hansal Mehta, who eventually cast him in Shahid (2012). Shahid’s success reinforced Rajkummar’s image in the industry as a performer.
Currently, Rajkummar is seen in Raj & DK’s ‘Guns and Gulaab‘. The web series also stars Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, Satish Kaushik and others. The series has been receiving positive reviews from all sides.
