Dgca: Immediately stop all bookings till further orders, DGCA directs Go First; issues show cause to airline

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed Go First to immediately stop booking and sale of tickets “directly or indirectly” until further orders. This order was issued on Monday when the regulator issued a show cause notice to Go First for its “failure to continue the operation of the service in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.” The regulator will take a call on the a grounded-since-May-3 airline’s air operator’s certificate (AOC or licence) after examining its response to the notice that has to be submitted in within a fortnight.
“In view of the sudden cancellation of flights and initiation of corporate insolvency resolution process under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) by Go Airlines (India) Limited (Go First), DGCA has issued a show cause notice to Go First under the relevant provisions of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, for their failure to continue the operation of the service in a safe, efficient and reliable manner,” said a senior DGCA official.

“The airline operator has been asked to submit their reply within 15 days of the receipt of this notice, and further decision on the continuation of their Air Operators Certificate (AOC )will be taken on the basis of the reply submitted by them. Further, Go First has been directed to stop booking and sale of tickets directly or indirectly, with immediate effect and until further orders,” the official aded.
Go First has cancelled all flights since May 3 and moved a plea with the NCLT to begin voluntary insolvency proceedings. Lessors to Go First have made a beeline to repossess their planes and airline’s employees like pilots are desperately seeking jobs with Air India, IndiGo and Akasa.
