Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third time on Wednesday in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy 2021.
Kejriwal, in a written reply to the ED, said “As a premier investigating agency the non-disclosure and non-response approach adopted by you cannot sustain the test of law, equity or justice.Your obstinacy tantamount to assuming the role of judge, jury and executioner at the same time which is not acceptable in our country governed by the rule of law.”
ENFORCEMENT DIRECTORATE CONTEMPLATES FOURTH SUMMONS
The Enforcement Directorate is examining Kejriwal’s response and may issue a fourth summons for his involvement in the alleged excise policy case. The sources said the ED is currently examining Kejriwal’s five-page reply sent to the investigating officer of the case on Wednesday and may reject his charges of calling the summons illegal.
SECURITY HEIGHTENED OUTSIDE KEJRIWAL’S RESIDENCE AMID ARREST SPECULATIONSSecurity has been tightened outside Arvind Kejriwal’s residence following claims by Aam Aadmi Party ministers that the ED is likely to arrest him. The speculation intensified after Kejriwal skipped the third summons on Wednesday. AAP leaders, citing unnamed inputs, hinted at a potential raid and arrest by the ED.

KEJRIWAL PLANS GUJARAT TOUR AMIDST ED PROBE

Arvind Kejriwal is set to embark on a three-day tour of Gujarat on January 6, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. During his visit, the Delhi CM will address public meetings, engage with party workers, and potentially meet jailed AAP leader Chaitar Vasava.

BJP ACCUSES KEJRIWAL OF EVADING PROBE

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, “Aam Aadmi Party leaders are making noises that their CM may get arrested anytime… They have committed theft, and corruption and now they are creating a ruckus.”
“The investigating agency has given you a chance to testify, but you are running away and behaving like a fugitive,” Sachdeva added.
BJP spokesperson Bansuri Swaraj said Kejriwal is forgetting that he is not above the law. “The ED has sent three summons, but the CM is running away from an investigation. He doesn’t want to be involved in the investigation,” Swaraj said.
