UDUPI: Yashpal Suvarna, MLA from Udipi, has requested Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to declare January 22 as a public holiday to commemorate the historic consecration of the Ayodhya temple.
In a letter to the CM, he said the dedication of the mandir is an immensely sacred day for all Indians, fulfilling a 500-year-old dream. Declaring a holiday would enable people to celebrate this emotional and historical moment from their homes, he said.
In his letter, he said PM Narendra Modi has urged the nation to observe this sacred day in their homes, akin to the celebration of Deepavali.”Pejawar Math pontiff, Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, also a trustee of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, has conveyed a message to the people of Udupi. He urged them to celebrate the ‘Pranaprathishte’ (installation of a deity in a temple) of Lord Ram by illuminating their homes, shops, and buildings with decorative lamps,” Suvarna said.
As a part of the Ram mandir’s inauguration, Suvarna organised a special “Halu Payasa seve” for devotees at the Udupi Shri Krishna Math for January 22. Also, various groups will perform a “Bhajana Kunita” at the math.
