MUMBAI: A magistrate’s court on Monday issued summons to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MP Sanjay Raut after Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale filed a defamation case against them alleging that an article in the UBT Sena mouthpiece Saamna was defamatory, reports Rebecca Samervel. The duo will have to appear before the court on July 14. The complaint against two reporters was dismissed. While Thackeray is chief editor of Saamna, Raut is executive editor.
The complaint submitted and argued by Shewale’s lawyer Chitra Salunkhe said he was shocked and distressed after reading the defamatory articles on December 29, 2022 in the Marathi and Hindi editions of Saamna, which claimed he had business interests in Karachi, Pakistan.
“The perusal of said articles alleges (the) complainant has certain undisclosed assets in the neighbouring country which have been acquired through wrongful means by him, which is a serious allegation against a public figure, having the ability to affect his political career awfully,” the complaint said. Shewale in his complaint refuted all the allegations.
